ESAM
More than 120 millions of inhabitants all over Europe live in 35 million units
of the social housing stock. This represents around 18% of the total final energy
consumption in the EU today.
The improvement of energy performance in social housing can only be achieved
through progressive retrofitting of the social housing stock. This requires
social housing operators (SHO’s), who own and/or manage the buildings,
to integrate and plan the reduction of energy consumptions in the long-term
strategic management of their housing stocks.
The ESAM proposal, set up and led by a consortium of SHO’s from 6 countries,
aims at developing methodologies and tools which will help SHO’s in the
definition of their long-term energy strategies, in the implementation of energy
efficient retrofitting project and adapted co-operation with stakeholders (occupiers,
public authorities, heating suppliers).
The results of the project will contribute to building competence and knowledge
on energy efficient retrofitting among European SHO’s.
